As Monica Kwarcinski, Purdue Pharma, reminded us, compliance wasn’t even on the Medical Communications landscape 15 years ago. Today, it’s a very different story. The whole area has become formalised into Medical Information practice and expanded to encompass all of our activities. These are my take-home messages about compliant activities in Med Info from this great 3 hour tutorial at the 2011 DIA US Med Comms workshop.

Chuck Depew, gsk, reflected on how medical information has changed over the past 20 years that the DIA US Medical Communications workshop has been running. The hot topics seem to be the same: comparing service dimensions and solving management problems, legal and regulatory issues, how technology can be a tool and career advancement in medical communications. However more recent challenges include Medical Science Liaisons – friend or foe, globalisation, e-everything and scientific publications.
